Hung pictures hold our pictures in position for a very long long time. This article will elaborate more on how to hang a picture on the wall.

To hang a picture on the wall, acquire all the tools and materials, scout the room, measure the wall and frame, determine the correct fixing, and mount the frame on the wall.

1. Acquire all tools and materials.

You can be able to hang your picture frame if you have these tools and materials. These tools are handy and make the work proceed faster. These tools are;

  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Screws
  • Small hammer
  • Portable tape measure
  • Picture hanging hooks
  • Electronic detectors for wires and pipes.

2. Scout the room.

We must keep the picture frame in the right place. There are a lot of places where we can keep the picture frame in our holes but the best of it all is to find a place where the picture is meant to be. Keeping a picture that depicts calmness, and intimacy in the living room is not ideal.

Always keep in mind that, the picture hung on the wall should be able to convey the right meaning to the right audience at the right time and place.

3. Measuring the wall and frame

The tape measure is a very essential tool used to help us know the right dimensions and location to place our picture frames. You must hang the image for it to be at an angle to the eye. Hanging the image too high may not help as it will be difficult for those who are short to read the meaning of the image or art that is hung. If the picture is small, you should consider hanging at about 55 inches to 60 inches from the floor.

If you have a bigger picture, you should consider hanging it below 55 to 60 inches. Since there are variations in room sizes and height, use your discretion to achieve the expected results.

4. Determining the correct wall fixing.

Choosing the right wall fixing is critical in this process. Not all screws are built to be able to withstand weight, hence the need to choose the one that is right and can serve this purpose.

A frame that is a4 or less can take a single screw but pictures in this size; A3, A2, A1, or any custom size that is bigger than A4 should also take more than one screw. This ensures that the picture is well-fastened against the wall.

5. Mounting the frame on the wall.

After determining the correct wall fixing, we will proceed to mount the frame on the wall. Before doing this, you should check if there are pipes and wires in the region where you are about to mount the frame. This can best be achieved using an electronic detector. If there are no detectors, kindly call your electrician or plumber to verify if the spot where the frame will be doesn’t have any object that will hinder the successful mounting of the frame.

Steps in mounting the frame.

  • Gently mark the spot where the frame will be with a pencil.
  • If you are using a wire taut, pull it gently and hook it on the wall.
  • If your picture was already having a D-rings hang it directly to the screws.
  • Carefully measure the level of the frame using a spirit level to determine if the picture is well positioned. In situations where there is no spirit level, you can use your eyes to gauge.

Extra Tips to Consider.

  • Do not hang your picture close to direct sunlight as it will cause the picture to fade.
  • Do not hang the picture close to any fire as it may cause the picture to become dry which can catch fire.
  • Use the right screw for the right job.
  • Avoid hanging pictures in areas like washrooms, poorly ventilated rooms, and damp walls. Hanging frames in these regions will cause the paper to become wet and discolored. This can also be a place for fungus to grow reducing its lifespan and affecting the quality of the frame and picture.
